අශෝක හදාගමයන්ගේ ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටයේ එන චරිත පිලිබදව ඔහු විසින් තම ෆේස්බුක් ගිණුමෙහි තැබූ සටහන් අප මෙසේ නැවත පලකරනු ලබන්නේ ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටය පිලිබදව උනන්දුවක් දක්වන ඔබ සදහාමයි.

පැබ්ලෝ ලංකාවට ආවේ ( 1929) බුරුමයේ රැන්ගුන් නුවර ඉඳන්. එහෙ ඉන්නකොට ඔහු ආදරෙන් බැඳුනු යුවතියක් හිටියාලු. නම ජොසී බ්ලිස්. ඇයගේ ආදරය මරාගන මැරෙන එකක්. වදයක් වුණු තරමටම දරුණු ආදරයක්. පැබ්ලෝ ඇයව හැඳින්වූයේ බුරුම අඳුන් දිවිදෙනක් ( Burmese Panther ) කියලා. ලංකාවට එන්නේ ඇගෙන් ගැලවෙන්න. ඒත් ඔහුට එහෙම ලේසියෙන් ඇගෙන් ගැලවෙන්න ලැබෙන්නේ නැහැ. දවසක් නොසිතු මොහොතක, ගෙයි දොර අරිනකොට ගෙයි දොරකඩ, ඇය …ලංකාවේ සහල් නැහැ කියලා හිතල ද කොහෙද සහල් මල්ලකුත් ඔලුවේ තියාගන. දිග කියුබානු සුරුට්ටුවක් මුව රඳවාගන.…ජොසී බ්ලිස් – ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටයේ ජොසී ගේ චරිතයට පන පොවන්නේ.. ඈන් සොලේන්. ප්‍රංශ සිනමා සහ වේදිකා රංගන ශිල්පිනියක්.

Pablo came to Ceylon ( 1929) from Rangoon, Burma. While he was there, he was in love with a Burmese woman; Josie Bliss. Her love later turned into passionate obsession. Pablo called her a Burmese Panther. He came here to escape from her, but it was not that easyOne day, she appeared unexpectedly on the doorstep when he opened the front door of the house. She was carrying a sack of rice on her head..a Cuban cigar in her mouth.Josie Bliss- is performed by Anne-Solenne Hatte; French theatre and cinema actress.

1929 පැබ්ලෝ ලංකාවට එනකොට ලයනල් (වෙන්ඩ්ට්) ට වයස අවුරුදු 29 යි. පැබ්ලෝ ට 25 යි. පැබ්ලෝ තමන් ලංකාවේ ගත කල කාලයේ අත්දැකීම හඳුන්වන්නේ දිදුලන හුදකලාවක් විදියට. ඒ කාලයේ පැබ්ලෝ ගේ සීමිත මිතුරු හමුවේ සමීප මිතුරෙකු වුනේ ලයනල්. දක්ෂ චායාරූප ශිල්පියෙකු මෙන්ම පියානෝ වාදකයෙකු වුණු සාහිත්‍ය හිතකාමී ලයනල් ගේ ඇසුර පැබ්ලෝ ගේ කවිසිත පෝෂණය කරන්න ඇති. අසභ්‍ය ප්‍රකාශනයක් ලෙස එංගන්තයේ තහනම් කෙරුණු ඩී එච් ලෝරන්ස් ගේ චැටර්ලි ආර්යාවගේ පෙම්වතා නවකතාව ඉතාලියේ ෆ්ලොරන්ස් නගරයේ රහසිගතව පල කෙරුණා. එවක දුර්ලබ මේ පොතේ කොපියක් ලයනල් සතුව තිබුනා. පැබ්ලෝ, ලෝරන්ස් ඇතුළු බොහෝ ඉංග්‍රීසි ලේඛකයින් ගේ පොත් පත් කියෙවුවෙ ලයනල් ගේ පුස්තකාලයෙන් කියලා කියවෙනවා. තමන් ගේ ජීවිතයේ අතිශය පුද්ගලික අත්දැකීම් වුනත් බෙදා ගන්න තරම් පැබ්ලෝ ට සමීපව සිටි මිතුරෙක්. ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටයේ ලයනල් ගේ භූමිකාව පන පොවන්නේ අපේ වේදිකාවේ ජනප්‍රිය, දක්ෂ රංගන ශිල්පියෙකු, හිටිවන හාසජනන රූපනවේදියෙකු සහ ගුවන්විදුලි හඬ පෞරුෂයක් වන ඩොමිනික් කෙලර්.

In 1929, when Pablo arrived in Ceylon, Lionel ( Wendt ) was 29 years old. Pablo was 25 years old. Pablo, in his Memoirs, describes his experience in Ceylon as Luminous Solitude. During those days, Lionel was among his group of close friends. Lionel was a photographer, a great pianist and a literary lover. His companionship may have played a catalytic role in inspiring Pablo’s poetic instincts. An unedited version of D H Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, banned in England as an obscene publication, was secretly published in Florence, Italy. Lionel had a copy of that. Pablo had read the literary works of Lawrence and many English authors from Lionel’s library. Pablo was so close to Lionel that he could even share his intimate life experiences with him. Lionel’s role in Alborada is played by Dominic Kellar: a well-known theatre actor, stand-up -comedian and radio personality in Sri Lanka.

පැබ්ලෝ ලංකාවට ඇවිත් සහභාගී වන මුල්ම සාදයේ දී ඔහුට යුරේසියානු සම්භවයක් ඇති යුවතියක් මුණ ගැහෙනවා. ඇගේ නම පැට්සි. ඇය තමන් ව පැබ්ලෝ ට හඳුන්වා දෙන්නේ පැබ්ලෝගේ ම කවි පන්තියක දෙපදයකින්.“ප්‍රේම කරමි මම, සේලරුවන් ගේ ආදරයට.මුව සිප, ඊළඟ මොහොතේ නික්මී යන..”චිලී රටේදී තමන් අතින් පබැදුනු “සමුගැනීම” කවි පන්තියේ එන දෙපදයක්, ඈත පෙරදිග ලංකාවේ දී අහන්න ලැබෙයි කියල පැබ්ලෝ හිතන්න නැතුව ඇති. හමුවුන පළමු රැයේ දීම දෙන්නා කුළුපග වෙනවා. තැන තැන යන සේලරුවන් ගේ ආදරය තාවකාලිකයි. තොටුපලින් තොටුපල පෙමින් බැඳෙන ගැහැණු! පැට්සි, පැබ්ලෝ ගෙන් ඒ තාවකාලික ඇසුර ට වඩා යමක් බලාපොරොත්තු වන්නේ නැහැ. රූකාන්ත ගුණතිලක ගායනා කරන “බොල් පිණි වෑහෙන වෙලාවේ..” ගීතය තවලම් කරුවන් ගේ ආදරය ගැන කියවෙන එකක්. ඒ ගීතයේ අත්දැකීම පැබ්ලෝ ගේ “සමුගැනීම” කවියේ එන සේලරුවන් ගේ ආදර අත්දැකීම ට සමානයි නේද කියලා මතක් කරලා දුන්නේ ඇල්බොරාදා සිංහල උපසිරසි වෙනුවෙන් කවි පරිවර්තනය කරදුන් ලක්ෂාන්ත අතුකෝරල.මේ ඉන්නේ පැට්සි…ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටයේ පැට්සි ගේ භූමිකාව රඟ පාන්නේ නිමායා හැරිස්. ලාංකීය ඉංග්‍රීසි වේදිකාවේ රංගන අත්දැකීම් ඇති නව යොවුන් රංගන ශිල්පිනියක්. නිමායා ගේ පළමු සිනමා රංගනය- පැට්සි.

Soon after arriving in Ceylon, Pablo attends a party hosted by Colombo colonial elites. At this party he meets a Eurasian girl, named Patsy. She introduces herself to Pablo by reciting a part of one of Pablo’s poems“I love the love of sailorsWho kiss and leave….”Pablo did not expect to meet in a faraway Eastern island, a person who is aware of the poem “Farewell” that he wrote in Chile. They became intimate friends from the first night they met. The love of the sailors who sail from one port to another is temporary; they fall in love with women wherever they go. Patsy doesn’t expect from Pablo a type of relationship beyond such a temporary one. There is a similar meaning and sentiment in Rukantha Gunathilaka’s song on caravan-people’s love “Bolpini vahena velave..”. Lakshantha Athukorala, who did the Sinhala translation of Pablo’s poems for Alborada, pointed out this to me.Here is Patsy. The character of Patsy is performed by Nimaya Harris in Alborada. පැබ්ලෝ නෙරුදා ගේ මතක සටහන් (Memoirs ) වලට අනුවත් වෙනත් බොහෝමයක් ලිපි ලේඛන හා ප්‍රබන්ධ වලට අනුවත්, ලංකාවේ සිටියදී පැබ්ලෝ ගේ ආවතේව කරුවා ලෙස සිටි ගෝලයා (Boy) ගේ නම බ්‍රම්පි. පැබ්ලෝ ලංකාව අතහැර සිය ඊළඟ රාජකාරී නැවතුම්පල වන ජාවා වලට යන්නෙත් බ්‍රම්පි සහ ‘කිරියා’ නම් වූ සුරතල් මුගටියාත් කැටුව. එහෙත්, පැබ්ලෝ පිළිබඳ වසර 15 ක් පමණ තිස්සේ පර්යේෂණ කල, පර්යේෂකයෙකු ලේඛකයෙකු, පරිවර්තකයෙකු සහ වාර්තා චිත්‍රපට කරුවකු වන මාර්ක් ඊසන් විසින් රචිත Neruda: Poet’s Calling නම් විශාල තොරතුරු රැගත් පර්යේෂණ ග්‍රන්ථයෙහි, රත්නයියා නම් සේවකයෙකු ගැන සඳහන් වෙනවා. මේ බ්‍රම්පි වෙන්න බැහැ. ඇල්බොරාදා සිනමා පටයේ දී පැබ්ලෝ ගේ ආවතේව කරුවා ලෙස හමුවන්නේ නෙරුදා කියවන අයට හමුවන බ්‍රම්පි නෙවෙයි. රත්නයියා.කෙනෙකුගේ මතක සටහන් කියන්නේ ඇත්ත වගේ ලියවුනු ප්‍රබන්ධයක් විය හැකියි. ප්‍රබන්ධයෙන් ඇත්ත මුදවා ගන්න, තවත් ප්‍රබන්ධයක් ගොඩ නගා ගන්න වෙනවා. ඇත්ත වගේ පෙනෙන ප්‍රබන්ධයක් වෙනුවට ප්‍රබන්ධයක් වගේ පෙනෙන ඇත්තක්, රත්නයියා.ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටයේ රත්නයියා භූමිකාවට පන පොවන්නේ මැල්කම් මචාඩෝ. ලාංකීය ප්‍රේක්ෂකයාට ඔහුව හඳුන්වා දෙන්න අටුවා ටීකා අවශ්‍ය නැහැ. පන පොවලා තියෙන හැම චරිතයක් ම මතක සටහනක්.

According to Pablo Neruda’s Memoirs and other papers and fictions written on his life and affairs during his stay in Ceylon, the name of his servant was Brampi. Pablo brought Brampi and the pet ‘Kiriya’ the Mangoos with him when he left Ceylon to his next service destination, Java. Mark Eisner the researcher, writer, translator and a documentary filmmaker, who did extensive research on Neruda and published a detailed account of his life, “Neruda: Poet’s Calling”, discloses a different name Rathnaigh. This one can’t be Brampi. It is Rathnaigh, whom you would meet in the film Alborada, as Pablo’s domestic servant; not Brampi.Someone’s memories are closer to fiction than to truth. In order to free the truth that is entangled in a fiction, one might need the help of another fiction. Instead of a fiction that is seen as the truth, Rathnaigh is a truth that is seen as a fiction. The role Rathnaigh is played in Alborada by Malcolm Machado. He needs no introduction to Sri Lankan audience.

“.. එක උදෑසනක මම ඕන කෙහෙල්මලක් වෙන්න කියලා තීරණයක් ගත්තා. ඇගේ අතේ මැණික් කටුව ලඟින් තදින් අල්ලාගන ඇගේ දෑස් දිහා බලාගන හිටියා. ඇය හා කතාකරන්න පුළුවන් භාෂාවක් තිබුනේ නැහැ. මුවේ සිනහවක් වත් නොතිබුණු ඇය මට ඇගේ අතින් අල්ලා කැඳවාගන යන්නට ඉඩදී සිටියා. ටිකකින් ඇය නිරුවතින් මගේ ඇඳ මත ! ඇගේ සිහින් ඉඟ, පුළුල් උකුල, පුන් පියයුරු නිසා ඇය මට දිස්වුනේ වසර දහස් ගණන් පැරණි දකුණු ඉන්දියානු පිළිරුවක් වගේ. අපේ සම්භෝගය සමාන වුනේ මිනිසෙකු හා පිළිමයක එකතුවකට. ඇය මුළු කාලය තුලම සිටියේ ඇගේ දෑස් මුළුමනින්ම ඇරගන. කිසිදු ප්‍රතිචාරයක් දක්වන්නේ නැතුව. මාව හෙලා දකින ඇය නිවැරදියි. ඒ සිදුවීම යලි කවදාවත්ම සිදු වුනේ නැහැ.”විසි වෙනි සියවසේ පහල වූ ශ්‍රේෂ්ටම කවියා ලෙස ගාෂියා මාකෙෂ් ගේ පැසසුමට ලක් වූ පැබ්ලෝ නෙරුදා නම් මේ ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨ කවියා දැන් ජාත්‍යන්තර සමාජ ක්‍රියාකාරීන් ගේ සියුම් පරීක්ෂාවට ලක්වෙලා. ඔහු ගේ නිර්මාණ වල සහ ක්‍රියාකාරීත්වය තුල පිළිබිඹු වන මානුෂීයත්වයේ අවංක කමයි දැන් අභියෝගයට ලක්වන්නේ. “ඇය මට ඇගේ අතින් අල්ලා කැඳවාගන යන්නට ඉඩදී සිටියා. ටිකකින් ඇය නිරුවතින් මගේ ඇඳ මත!” යන වාක්‍ය ඛණ්ඩය විවේචනය ට ලක් වන්නේ අමූලික බොරුවක් ලෙසයි. මේ විස්තරය අලලා ස්ලෝවේනියානු දාර්ශනික ස්ලාවෝ ජිජැක් කියන්නේ “ආගන්තුක අනෙකා උදාසීන දේවත්වයකට ඔසවා තැබීමෙන් කෙරෙන්නේ, එය ‘තූ නොදකින්’ කියා හෙලා දැකීමක් ” කියලයි.ඇල්බොරාදා සිනමා පටයේ පැබ්ලෝ ගේ භූමිකාවට පන පොවන්නේ ලුවී ජේ රොමේරෝ. ස්පාඥ්ඥ ජාතික රංගධරයෙක් සහ කවියෙක්. නෙරුදා ගේ කවි සමඟ සරාගී ලෙස පෙමින් බැඳුනු අයෙක්. නෙරුදා ගේ බොහොමයක් කවි කට පාඩමින් රසවත් ව කියවිය හැකි කෙනෙක්.

“..One morning, I decided to go all the way. I got a strong grip on her wrist and stared into her eyes. There was no language I could talk with her. Unsmiling, she let herself be led away and was soon naked in my bed. Her waist, so very slim, her full hips, brimming cups of her breast made her likethousand – year- old sculptures from the South India. It was the coming together of a man and a statue. She kept her eyes wide open all the while, completely unresponsive. She was right to despise me. The experience was never repeated” – excerpt from Pablo Neruda’s Memoir.Neruda, hailed as “the greatest poet in the 20th century in any language” by literary giant Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is now the subject of international scrutiny, with activists challenging the phrase “..she let herself be led away and was soon naked in my bed” calling it a blatant lie. The Slovenian philosopher Slavo Zizek says “…elevating the exotic Other into an indifferent divinity is strictly equal to treating it like shit.”Pablo’s role in the film Alborada, is played by Luis J. Romero, a Spaniard.He is an actor and a poet, ‘passionately’ in love with Neruda’s poems. He could recite many poems by Neruda by heart.

“පැබ්ලෝ නෙරුදා : කවියා, වීරයා, ස්ත්‍රී දුෂකයා – නෙරුදා නමින් ගුවන් තොටුපල නැවත නම් කිරීමට යන චිලියානු සැලසුමට එරෙහිව විරෝධය” මැයෙන් 2018 නොවැම්බර් 23 වෙනිදා ද ගාර්ඩියන් පුවත්පත ප්‍රවෘතියක් පල කලා. ලේඛකයා Charis McGowan. ස්ත්‍රී-පුරුෂ සමාජ භාවයේ ගැටළු සහ ස්ත්‍රී අයිතිවාසිකම් පිලිබඳ ලියන චිලියේ ඉන්නා ලේඛකයෙක්. සන්තියාගෝ ගුවන් තොටුපල නෙරුදා නමින් නම් කිරීමට එරෙහිව පැවතුණු විරෝධතාවක් පිළිබඳවයි ඒ ලිපිය ලියවී තිබුණේ. තමාගේ ම මතක සටහන් පොතක ස්ත්‍රී දුෂණයක් විස්තර කරන පුද්ගලයෙකු ට එවැනි ගෞරවයක් දීම නොසුදුසු බවයි විරෝධතා කරුවන් තර්ක කරන්නේ. පුවත් ලිපිය ශිෂ්‍ය ක්‍රියාකාරිනියක් වන Vergara Sánchez මෙහෙම උපුටා දක්වනවා: “නෙරුදාව පරමාදර්ශීකරණය නවතා ඔහු ගේ නොනිසි බව ගැන කතා කිරීමට කාලය පැමිණ තියෙනවා. ප්‍රසිද්ධ කලාකරුවකු වූ නිසා ස්ත්‍රී දුෂකයෙකු වීමට ඔහුට වරම් ලැබෙන්නේ නැහැ.”මේ ප්‍රවෘත්තිමය ලිපිය මට හමුවන විටත් වසර දහයක් දොළහක් පමණ තිස්සේ අල්බෝරාදා සිනමා පිටපත මම රචනා කරමිනුයි සිටියේ. ලයනල් වෙන්ඩ්ට් ගැන පොතක් ලියා පලකල සම්පත් බණ්ඩාර 2019 අවුරුද්දේදී මට Neruda: Poet’s Calling (2018) නම් අලුත් පොතක් ගැන තොරතුරක් දුන්නා. එහි ඉලෙක්ට්‍රොනික කොපියක් මම මිලදී ගත්තා. මේ කියවීම් නිසා ලැබුණු උත්තේජනයෙන් ඇල්බොරාදා චිත්‍රපටය කිරීමේ ක්‍රියාවලිය ඉක්මන් කලා. කොවිඩ් වසංගතය පැතිරෙන්න ගන්නවාත් සමඟම සිනමා පටය නිපදවීමේ සංග්‍රාම භූමියට අප ඇතුළු වුනා. මේ වෙනකොට චිත්‍රපටයේ එක් “ගුප්තමය සුන්දරියක්” හැරෙන්න අනෙකුත් සියලුම චරිත හඳුන්වා දී අවසන්. අද මේ හැඳින්වාදීම් මාලාවේ අවසන් අංගය. එක් අප්‍රසන්න උදෑසනක් වනතෙක් පැබ්ලෝ ලංකාවට පැමිණි දා සිට උදෑසන අවදි වූයේ, සිහින් මුහුදු සුළඟ හා මුහුව එන කිංකිණි නාදයක් සමඟ. ඒත් එදා ඔහු නොනිදාම රැය පහන් කලේ ඒ හඬ මතුවන රුව අභිමුඛ වන්නට.…එම ගුප්තමය සුන්දරිය ගේ භූමිකාවට පන පොවන රිතිකා හඳුන්වා දීමත් සමඟ මේ හඳුන්වා දීම් මාලාව නිම වෙනවා. චිත්‍රපටය ප්‍රදර්ශනය සඳහා මුදාහැරෙන දිනයට කිට්ටු දිනක නැවත හමුවන තෙක් මුහුණු ආවරණ පැළඳ ආරක්ෂිතව ඉන්න.

On 23rd Nov 2018, The Guardian newspaper published a news article titled “Pablo Neruda: Poet, hero, rapist – outrage over Chilean plan to rename airport after Neruda”. The writer was Charis McGowan, a freelance journalist based in Chile, who writes on women’s and gender rights issues. The article was on the protest by human rights activists against the move to name Santiago Airport after Neruda. “Activists argue that the honour is inappropriate for a man who described raping a maid in his memoir”.Article quoted Vergara Sánchez( a student activist). “It is time to stop idolizing Neruda and talk about the fact that he was abusive. Just because he is a famous artist does not exempt him from being a rapist.” I had been developing the script of Alborada for about 10 -12 years when I encountered this news article. In 2019, Sampath Bandara, who published a book on Lionel Wendt suggested me to find and read the book “Neruda: The Poet’s Calling”, (2018) which I bought down to Kindle. Those readings triggered me to expedite the production process. With the outbreak of Pandemic, we entered the battle field. Revelation of all the major roles of Alborada, except one ‘mystical beauty’ has been finished. Today is the last of this sequence….Pablo used to wake up every morning with the rhythmic tinkling sound coming with the sea breeze until the dawn of that unpleasant day. He spent a sleepless night to confront the source of that sound…With the introduction of Rithika, who performs that mystical role, this sequence comes to the end. Until we get an opportunity to release the film, hopefully soon, wear the mask and stay safe.
